Fashion is an industry that’s ever-growing and changes by the second. As Heidi Klum proudly says, “In fashion, one day you’re in and the next day you’re out”, it’s surreal how true the statement actually is. With the constant evolving and experimenting that goes on in the world of fashion, it’s hard for everyone to keep up. We might splurge on bell bottoms one day and a couple of months later, bell bottoms are a major turn-off. We then begin to notice that a few years later they may become trendy again! Does that mean we discard our old bell bottoms and buy new ones when they’re back in vogue? And have you ever wondered the impact of all this waste on our planet? Fashion Revolution is the answer!

Fashion Revolution is a not-for-profit global movement with teams in over 100 countries around the world. Fashion Revolution campaigns for systemic reform of the fashion industry with a focus on the need for greater transparency in the fashion supply chain. Fashion Revolution has designated the anniversary of the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh as Fashion Revolution Day. In 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 millions of people around the world called on brands to answer the question Who Made My Clothes? The hashtag #whomademyclothes became the no.1 global trend on Twitter.

Fashion Revolution is a global movement run by designers, organizations, academics, writers etc. from all over the world to reduce the impact of fashion on the environment. People are being reckless and buying loads and loads of clothes, discarding them without using them enough and that has so many ill effects on the environment. Fashion Revolution is aiming to save the planet! When I came across this concept, I couldn’t have been more thrilled. One of their mantras is to embrace the art of restyling and that is completely in alignment with my personal style. Being a fashion and beauty blogger since 2016, it is quite challenging for me to manage my storage space. I have pieces from ten years ago that I probably haven’t had a chance to wear more than twice and I have tops and tees that I wear pretty much every other day. After a lot of rethinking and revisiting my wardrobe, I finally decided to reuse and restyle my existing pieces. Here is how I did it and you can restyle your old wardrobe as well.

Shop consciously!

When you go to a store to pick up something, think about the versatility of the piece. It’s important to have a capsule wardrobe where you can mix and match items. You don’t need three pairs of black leggings when one can do the job just fine. You won’t just be saving on storage space, you’ll also save a lot of money.

Get creative!

Using a jumpsuit as a top as well as shorts. Doable? Hell yeah! You can reuse an item for a totally different purpose than what it’s meant for. Don’t restrict yourself to sticking with the norm. Go crazy with all the things you could achieve with one saree or one saree blouse or a shirt. For instance, you can see below that I restyled one jumpsuit in four different ways.
