The heart of India lies in Delhi, whose heart beats at Chandni Chowk! The place makes an unbeatable market for clothes, electronic items, shoes, bangles and what not. But that stands out here is its food. Purani Dilli ka khana is to die for. I have been to Chandni chowk a lot many times, and every trip has a special food memory associated with it. The moti jalebi at the famous Old Jalebi shop and matar samosas just across the road formed my first food experience at this place.
The other time I went, I was made to have chhole palak and chawal at kakke di hatti and giani’s falooda. The two places were a stand-out, the food was great and so was the reception at those shops. The famous Haldiram’s chain find its roots right here at the town hall road. This even reminds me of one of my photo walks here, which had begun with Natraj ke bhalle and led us to the paranthe wali gali, whose charm is age old. Paranthas made from any and everything, and how delicious they are. Right across these parantha shops, one can find lassi walas, I say, do not miss them.
Daulat ki chaat is another delicacy which is not found anywhere else but in Chandni Chowk ki galiyan. Its creamy milk froth with khurchan and dry fruits, a must have for all of us! The Ghantewala halwai is another attraction here. Though I have never got a chance to visit him, but I would surely go in the coming days. Karim’s near Jama Masjid also needs a mention here. It has been serving people from so long and hasn’t lost its clientele. People say it offers the best non-veg food in Delhi,Whew!
You would find many articles and suggestions before you go to Chandni Chowk, but I suggest, have a heart to taste the golgappas, aloo tikkis, kulfi, mattar-kulcha, paneer chila from any vendor, you never know, you might just discover another historical eatery at the haven of street food. Go make you own experience out there.
Oh yeah, the purpose of highlighting the Chandni Chowk magic was to remind the Delhi government that Chandni Chowk it is, Please facilitate Sachin Tendulkar in a better way rather than disappointing us Chandni Chowk enthusiasts by calling it by another not-so-happening “Tendulkar Chowk”!!
