Just Download Blueprint And 3D Print Guns At Home
We had earlier posted about printing parts of a gun using a 3D printer and making it work. At that time, the project was quite doubtful and controversial. But now a group has came forward to make sure anyone can print a working gun right at their homes.
A group called “Defense Distributed” created the “Wiki Weapon Project” and is trying raise $20,000 to get a plastic, 3D printed handgun on the market. The printer chosen for this task is RepRap which costs less than $1000. If the project gets successful then people would be able to print guns within minutes by just downloading the CAD blueprints.
Cody Wilson, one of the members of the group, told Forbes, “The group is gathering the money to buy or rent a $10,000 Stratasys 3D printer for prototyping the design, then offer a $1,000 or $2,000 prize to whoever gives them the best model for a 3D printed gun.”
They claim that they have already received entries. Soon after they build it, the design will go open-source and RepRap compatible.
The Indiegogo campaign of the group was shut down after raising $2,000 for “unusual account activity” on Tuesday. But they have not lost hopes. They are still collecting funds from their site and via Bitcoin. Have a look at the Indiegogo video below:
