Airport Express to run trains all 24 hours on Christmas Eve

Delhi Metro Airport Express LineDelhi Airport Metro Express Limited (DAMEL) will run trains for 24 hours this Saturday on Christmas Eve, when many people will travel to Connaught Place to celebrate and visit Sacred Heart Cathedral to attend midnight mass.

The Sacred Heart Cathedral, which is close to the Shivaji Stadium station on the Airport Express Line, conducts midnight mass which usually continues till 3 a.m. on the day of Christmas. The 24-hour metro service is aimed at helping commuters by providing a safe and hassle-free transport.

“The extended service during the whole night will facilitate commuters visiting the church for the midnight mass on the night of December 24. Reliance Metro is glad to join in the celebration of Christmas and provide hassle-free service to its valuable commuters during this festive night,” said a spokesperson of Reliance Infrastructure, the consortium that operates the line.

Reliance Infra will also arrange for bus service at DAMEL’s Dwarka Sector-21 station. These buses will ply during the night time to pick and drop commuters from Dwarka area.

The trains and stations of the high speed metro link have been given a festive feel, and Reliance Metro will also celebrate Christmas with school children through train trips and refreshments, and “Santa Claus” will distribute sweets to children in the train. Budding talent from the South Campus colleges will also be performing musical shows during the Christmas week.

Street play groups will also join the celebration and perform at DAMEL’s Shivaji Stadium station.

Currently running with a ridership of around 20,000 per day, Reliance Metro Airport Line expects to attract more footfalls when it starts the international check-in facility. Domestic check-in facility is already operational at Shivaji Stadium, New Delhi and Dhaula Kuan stations of DAMEL.
